simple notebook design contest
As the Product Manager for Becky Higgins LLC, I work with a variety of designers on multiple projects throughout the year and it's always a treat to see a product go from a style board of ideas to a product for sale in our shop. This past year we launched the "Simple Notebook" and it continues to be a favorite product amongst our team and our customers. We have released 3 different colors of our LOVE notebook and have given $1 from each notebook sold to charity. What could make the Simple Notebook even more exciting and special? Having YOU design it!!
We've hosted several design contests over the years and they are so much fun. We love great design and seeing the talents of others come to life - it's a big part of what we do here! Remember, we're always on the lookout for new design talent that could be a great fit for our brand + products, so if you're interested in getting noticed or have a friend you would love to see designing for us, make sure to share the contest details and get those submissions turned in! You never know where one little contest may lead.
Did I mention this is a paid gig? We'll be sending $100 and a case of 6 notebooks (with their design in print) to the winning designer!
submission guidelines
1. Your notebook cover designs must be submitted in a 6.5 x 8.5 inch size (6 x 8 inch with .25 bleed on all sides) -- vertical orientation.
2. Files must be created with a CMYK color profile and saved as 300 dpi PDF files. They can be created in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign, but submitted designs should be saved in PDF format.
3. You must include both a cover design and a back cover design.
4. You must name your files in this format: LastFirst_SimpleNotebookFront (or back).pdf { i.e. HoltKari_SimpleNotebookFront.pdf }
5. All artwork must be original art. You may NOT use any paper or embellishments from digital kits (unless you designed them).
6. The style of the cover designs is up to you. You’re the designer. Take a look at the Simple Notebook designs that we currently offer for reference -- the product listings show photos of the front and back covers. We like the idea of a "message" on the front cover and a touch of foil if it suits the overall style. Here's another tip on what will likely stand out to us: clean and uncluttered.
7. No more than two design submissions per person - a cover and back cover pair is considered one submission.
8. Email submissions to submissions@beckyhiggins.com and be sure to tell us your full name, location (city/state/country), and link us to your blog or website if you have one so we can get more glimpses of you and your work.
NOTE: If your submission doesn’t meet all the requirements above, it will not be considered.
Here are a few more things to keep in mind:
1. Who’s who. There are no rules as to who can submit a notebook design - this is open to everyone. Whether you live in the U.S. or abroad, whether we've been friends for years or you've just learned of our company … you have equal chances. We just want the coolest design to add to our product line!
2. Tell your friends! Know a great designer who may not be aware of this contest? Encourage him/her to consider submitting a design or two. Spread the word because that’s how we’ll find the best designs yet.
3. Fonts. Please be mindful of copyrights. Your safest bet is to use generic fonts like the Arials, Helveticas, Georgias, etc. Be sure to save your layered files for any slight changes you may be asked to make.
4. Finalizing Files. Once the winner is selected, artwork will need to be finalized for production. Please be aware that a bit more work will be required if your design is chosen.
The deadline for submissions is February 16, 2018, at 12:00 midnight PST - that’s THREE weeks from today.

Becky Higgins, LLC, its staff, and its owners reserve sole and final judgment as to all matters concerning contests and interpretation of contest rules. No purchase is necessary to enter.
