I'll be the first to admit that decorating for Halloween is NOT my jam. It's actually a funny quirk about me ... that I don't decorate for Halloween, but I totally decorate for FALL! I love, love, love fall, but the older I get, the less I appreciate Halloween, you know? Actually ... I know I'm in the minority. We can still be friends -- I promise! ; )
It's for this reason that we've invited someone else to share some Halloween-y goodness because we know that so many of you love this kind of inspiration! And honestly ... what our friends from Lolly Jane have whipped up is seriously so fun ... it ALMOST has me convinced to do a little touch of Halloween festivity in my house. Oh, who am I kidding? I'll leave that to the girls who are good at this stuff! Check out this adorable wooden bat garland -- and they even share how to make it with a few easy steps!

Hi there, friends! We are twin sisters Kelli and Kristi of Lolly Jane, our eclectic DIY blog. We share everything from home decor tutorials and recipes to printables and holiday crafts. Since we have 2 weeks of fall break here in Arizona, the days can get long so we do a lot of crafting. With Halloween around the corner, my kids and I made this cute bat garland for less than $5 and under an hour. Note that it would have taken me 10 minutes total, but hey, we're making memories right? ;)
Materials needed:
Wooden Bat Ornaments x 4 ($.98/each at Walmart or Oriental Trading has them unfinished for a steal!)
Twine, string, or yarn (roughly 2.5')
Drill with drill bit (1.7 size)
I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory, but I'll give you the official tutorial anyway! ;)
Instructions:
STEP 1. Snip off ornament tags and twine from bat head.
STEP 2. Drill holes in bat wings.
STEP 3. String twine (roughly 5" from each bat, including knot) from the back of the wing and tie in a knot to secure.
Yes, it's really that easy!
I did the drilling and the kids did the tying and displaying!
We paired it with some yarn poofs (search Pinterest for how to whip them up,) and my farmhouse dining room shelves are officially Halloween-ified!
I love how versatile this little garland is. Display over your doorway to welcome visitors, add over your mantel, or string across your food table at a Halloween party. It's so festive and less than $5! If you need it longer, just snag more Halloween bats and make it as long as you need. For us, they're the perfect accent over our DIY Chicken Wire Frame.
