show notes

Messy is where the magic happens.

Hard is good.

Who do you want to be in a year? What will your life look like? What will you be doing? What will you be interested in? What emotions will you feel?

Who do you not want to be? What do you not want to feel?

A couple tools to overcome perfectionist tendencies:
  • know who you want to be
  • one thing at a time

What fun it was to listen to this podcast!! I appreciate Monica’s honesty sharing about her life as a perfectionist that spills over to so many difficulties like eating disorders and even suicidal thoughts! Wow! And your right about how everyone would just assume that Monica truly has it “all together” ! As a mother of four, I was always concerned/fearful about being the best Mom I could be, my kids would do well in school…then…go to college…and what about the $$$? I worried about everything and worked so hard to get it “right”. All the while, I knew I wasn’t “perfect”. But ya know what? My kids grew up just fine, 3/4 went to college, one went into the military. They are grown, married with children of their own! No body died in the process, nobody went hungry, nobody had to wear dirty clothes or go without things to do and places to go. It is somewhat , funny (?) only one child is working at a job with the degree he went to college for, the others have jobs doing something completely different!
I’ve made it to retirement (5 mos.) and I’m learning it’s OK to let go of a few things, like I don’t feel the need to hide my grey hair anymore and letting it grow out natural.(ha!) Come what may! Thanks for today’s podcast. I enjoyed listening!

Your podcasts continue to make me think about my life and how to choose to be happy regarding various situations. I am sitting here in the middle of this podcast and blown away as I’ve suffered as a perfectionist all my life. I’ve had many successes because of it but have also been completely taken over by anxiety over fear of something not being just right in my mind. Early in the podcast you mentioned something similar to “showing up as a B-” is better than not trying at all for fear of not being “perfect” at something. Wow…this HIT HOME as I sit here thinking of next steps in my marriage, as a parent….I could go on and on. Life changing stuff here! Bravo ladies!

I just want to say that I just a few days ago found your podcast, and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s my new favorite. I have only listened to two episodes so far, but I can’t wait to go back to the beginning and catch up. Your wisdom and positivity are so inspiring. I’m in a different season of life than the two of you (turning 50 in a couple of months and no kids), but I can relate to so much of what you have said so far. I just finished listening to the most current episode with Monica Packer and I instantly went to her podcast on my favorite platform (Google Podcasts) and subscribed. The topic of perfectionism really resonated with me. “Done is better than perfect” is my mantra for this year. I’ve been really trying to use that with projects at work, and it’s amazing how much more I can get done by repeating that phrase to myself. Anyway, I just wanted to say keep up the good work! I’m heading over to iTunes now to leave a review!
