new headquarters – under construction

Wednesdays here on the blog are for our At Home with Becky series. Today is a very special edition because what has been “at home” for so long, is soon to move outside of our home.

It was five years since David and I looked at each other and said, “We’re really doing this.”

Five years since we took that giant leap of faith and forged ahead with starting a little company so I could carry out my passion for helping people document life with an easier approach.

Five years since our home office became the official headquarters for Becky Higgins LLC.

Today, friends… I can hardly believe that I am officially announcing that we are moving into an actual, commercial office space. This is not the typical announcement that gets our customers super excited, I know. This isn’t a new product, or the app launching, or a new partnership, or anything like that. In fact, it doesn’t really affect you, but I’m sharing it because so many of you have been “with us” these first five years of the business. Some of you have known me even longer – back to the days of Creating Keepsakes magazine.

And so, in the spirit of sharing some exciting-to-us small business happenings … and because I’m such a fan of sharing behind-the-scenes of what goes on around here, I will be sharing snippets of this office space journey on social media while this space is under construction for the next couple months. Want to follow along? Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Here’s what the space looks like today. Empty. Ready for construction. And full of enormous potential. We’ve been able to completely grow our business from our home office for 5 years, but we have outgrown that now. It’s time for a dedicated space outside of our home where all the magic can continue to happen. And we could not be more excited about this milestone.

Thank you for your continued support during this journey as we continue running a small business out of our big love for simplifying the memory-keeping process for countless thousands across the world. I can’t wait to share the progress of our little headquarters!

I know you are super thrilled to have a dedicated space OUTSIDE of your home for your business, and I think I speak for most when I say I’m delighted that you’re sharing this with us. This is my 5th year of documenting my family with Project Life, and I was a subscriber in the early days of CK, so I’ve been following your career for some time now and am celebrating this new milestone along with you. I’ll be praying for a smooth and speedy transition into your new fabulous space. ;o)

So excited for you! We moved to our new business premises in June after working from home for over 8 years, it was a massive milestone and although it has pros and cons it’s so nice to just be at home now and not feel it’s a workplace too! Good luck getting it all ready! X

I have been following you since about 2003 when I started out scrapbooking. Watched intensely every month for your layouts in Creating Keepsakes, bought all the sketch books, etc. Have loved your simplicity over the years – not just in scrapbooking but how you REALLY enjoy and emphasize the simple things in life! I’ve grown to love project life, and seeing your family grow. So excited to see the next venture… Thanks for continuing to share! Wishing you always much health, happiness and love – Winnipeg, MB

Seriously so exciting for you! Look what you’ve done in five years…you’ve moved from paper to digital, recurited some aweseome names in the scrapbooking world to your product, created an app to make our scrapbook needs even easier and have changed how I scrapbook. I don’t have to feel overwhelmed by the amount of pictures anymore. I can pick and choose what I use and can do it in many different formats. It’s awesome. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. I really hope we get to meet soon. It’s kind of dream of mine since moving from Virginia (no scrapbooking there) to here where there are so many people who love it!

  33. Jean Kinney says:

Becky, that brings back memories. In 2004, I was on my way out of my job as an appellate law firm secretary, and looking for something to do. I decided to open a brick-and-mortar scrapbook store in the Northridge Fashion Mall, in Northridge, CA, in the San Fernando Valley. I rented an empty space that had been a portrait studio and a juice bar, and had it completely remodeled – from the studs up, including installing an ADA-approved bathroom. I had never done anything remotely like this before, and I handled all aspects of it myself, from locating the building, to getting financing, to designing the sign, ordering product (one day I came home to find the front porch of our house completely covered from floor to roof with boxes of scrapping goodies), and all the other details of building and running a store. I accomplished it with quite a bit of help from friend and relatives, and enjoyed operating it for a year. Then we retired and moved out of state, but I sold it to a couple of scrappers who did a great job of running it for another year. (BTW, during that time while I was designing, building and running the store, I never got any scrapping done!) Good luck with your adventure, and keep up the good work!

  34. Garaleen says:

Good news! I love hearing about an entrepreneurial venture in the U.S.A. that succeeds…sometimes, against very difficult odds! Kudos!

  35. Elysa says:

Congratulations! I have been following you since the days of Creating Keepsakes. You are an incredible talent, thanks for taking a leap of faith. Wishing you many more years of success!

  36. Lorna Schreck says:

I love that you are sharing your new office space. Yes, it does matter to us. Watching your company grow and expand while you help shape and inspire our scrapbooking is a “good thing!” There is a huge part of me that wishes I was 30 years younger so I could be on the same plane as you – stretching your wings, ready to fly into the exciting world of entrepreneurship. I am so proud of you and all the wonderful steps you have taken to make Becky Higgins LLC a major influence in the scrapbook community. Having met you on BPC and several years ago and then joining your live presentation on Creative Live was exciting enough – but this, oh my goodness, it is HUGE (as Stacy would say). Congratulation – well deserved.
