I was born + raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. I love my beautiful little spot in the Rocky Mountains. Side note: I can’t tell the difference between East/West without my mountains. I get completely lost.
My family now consists of my handsome, always calm husband Ryan (9 years married!) and our two rambunctious rabble-rouser boys — Paxton (5) and Beckham (2). I’m a total boy mom, which means I’ve had to let go of my fear of bugs and other creepy crawlies (or at the very least not show my fear to my boys). We do a lot of playing with action figures and playing in the dirt. A. LOT. of playing in the dirt.
The way I use Project Life is that I use the app and I LOVE IT! I can do it anywhere. I usually create 12×12 pages, with a few other sizes (mostly 6×8) stuck in between. I do two pages per week, with a few extra pages splattered throughout for special occasions. I use my phone to jot down my journal moments throughout the week, then I cut and paste straight into the app and add pictures….easy peasy.
My favorite things to record are “Pearl Moments.” I got the name Pearl Moments from a dear cousin of mine. We were chatting about life and recognizing the smallest happy moments, and she shared a quote from the book Anne of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery:
“I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.”
So, every single day I record the small “Pearl Moments.” The silly, the serious, the spiritual, the ridiculous, and the little things I notice. Using Project Life makes my random Pearl Moments look amazing! I print my pages and put them in an album so I will never forget even the smallest moments that happen in my life, and my kids can enjoy flipping through our history with me.
To me, documenting life has become a way of self care. I used to write and blog ALL THE TIME. But, life happens, jobs happen, kids happen. And I wouldn’t change anything about it! I love my busy life, but it’s nice to find something for me again.
Three things on my bucket list are:
1. Sleep through the night again. #parentlife But seriously.
2. Travel the world with my husband. We’d love to visit Korea (my husband lived there for 2 years while serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has always wanted to visit again) and my dream is to visit Europe, Greece, and Egypt. I love learning about anything history related, so those places are right up my alley.
3. Go on another humanitarian trip! I went on one shortly after graduating from high school, and I just absolutely knew that I was going to change the world! I learned awfully fast that the people I was meeting were changing me FAR more than I was helping them.
Cultivating a good life means embracing each season of life as it comes. Attempting to let go of being a perfectionist, being in control, and unnecessary guilt. Truly being joyful, even through rough patches, and being an example to our kids of how to be joyful and enjoy each and every Pearl Moment as it comes.
