Pocket Scrapbooking with Project Life

Cultivate a good life and record it.

’tis the season for a contest!

We love great design and seeing the design talents of others – it’s a big part of what we do! In past years, we have hosted a design contest for our readers to submit holiday card designs that we then distributed to our audience during the holiday season. We’re doing it again this year (after taking a break from the contest in 2014)! It’s one of our most favorite things we do all year and we can’t wait to see what you come up with. This year we’ve got some fun plans up our sleeves using these new designs, but for now, we need you to get designing so we can find some winners! Remember, we’re always on the lookout for new design talent that could be a great fit for our brand + products, so if you’re interested in getting noticed or have a friend you would love to see designing for us, make sure to share the contest details and get those submissions turned in! You never know where one little contest may lead.

And this is a paid gig – we’ll be sending $100 to each of our top winning designers!

{ submission guidelines }

1. Your card design must be submitted in a 5 x 7 inch size – either horizontal or vertical orientation is fine.

2. Files must be saved as 300 dpi PNG files with a transparent background.

3. You must leave a blank (transparent) space where the photo(s) is to be placed. The photo(s) should be prominent in the design.

4. You must name your files in this format: LastFirst_2015HolidayCard.png { i.e. HoltKari_2015HolidayCard.png }

5. All artwork must be original art. You may NOT use any paper or embellishments from digital kits (unless you designed them).

6. You may include the year 2015 somewhere in the design if you’d like, but it isn’t required. Keep in mind that if your design includes the year, it does “limit” its use to this holiday season rather than allowing people to use it for years to come.

7. The style of the card is up to you. You’re the designer. Obviously we want to end up with 12 unique designs so everyone has plenty to choose from, so design in whatever style suits you best. But here’s a tip on what will likely stand out to me personally: clean and uncluttered.

8. No more than two design submissions per person.

9. Email submissions to submissions@beckyhiggins.com and be sure to tell us your full name, location (city/state/country), and link us to your blog or website if you have one so we can get more glimpses of you and your work.

NOTE: If your submission doesn’t meet all the requirements above, it will not be considered.

Here are a few more things to keep in mind:

1. Who’s who. There are no rules as to who can submit a card design – this is open to everyone. Whether you live in the U.S. or abroad, whether we’ve been friends for years or you’ve just learned of our company … you have equal chances. We just want the coolest selection of cards to share with our audience!

2. Tell your friends! Know a great designer who may not be aware of this contest? Encourage him/her to consider submitting a design or two. Spread the word because that’s how we’ll find the best designs yet.

3. Fonts. Please be mindful of copyrights. Your safest bet is to use generic fonts like the Arials, Helveticas, Georgias, etc. Be sure to save your layered files for any slight changes you may be asked to make.

4. Holiday terms. We will ultimately want to represent a variety of phrases in our final designs – Christmas, Holiday, Hanukkah, Merry, Kwanzaa, whatever. Take your pick, using any phrasing that best suits your design or leave words off altogether if you choose.

The deadline for submissions is August 21, 2015, at 12:00 midnight PST – that’s ONE week from today.

We will narrow down all of the submissions to our top favorite designs and will be making contact with the winners in the next few weeks. Our team is beyond excited to see your designs and to share them with everyone as the holidays (quickly) approach!

    Just wondering when we would find out the winners of the contest? I can’t wait! I didn’t send out cards last year due to my breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, so I’m eager to get my cards put together and out to our friends and family!
    Thank you!!
