Pocket Scrapbooking with Project Life

Cultivate a good life and record it.

shutterfly photo book inspiration

Last weekend I checked off a huge to-do on my never-ending list: I completed our 2012 family yearbook! As you may remember, I do our family yearbooks in the photo book format on Shutterfly and make a copy for us as well as each of our 3 kids. I seriously can not wait to get that package in the mail.

As we announced yesterday, there are now 3 additional Project Life editions available on Shutterfly – yippee! Today we wanted to share with you some sample pages from a couple of our Creative Team members.

Dunia Acauan made quick work of this gorgeous photo book by using the newly-available Bridgeport Edition. By adding little more than her photos, she has a spectacular keepsake of their time at the beach.

She notes of her experience: I made this album from our “Carnival Holiday” on the beach. I didn’t want to have those photos only in my computer but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time making a photo book from them. That’s why I love to make albums with Shutterfly – especially now that we have amazing pre-made photo books like the Bridgeport Edition that I used in this album. Just fill the book with your photos and it’s ready! Simple and amazing! If you want something more personalized you also can add or change the background, embellishments, text and change the layout of your pages (I did that with a couple of pages). Another amazing thing about Shutterfly (for international customers like me) it’s that they ship your album to most countries with a very reasonable shipping price.

Leena Loh also created a few pages using the new Olive Edition:Shutterfly Olive_LeenaLoh1 Shutterfly Olive_LeenaLoh2

If you have Project Life layouts you’ve created in Shutterfly, we’d love to see what you’re doing with our designs! Anyone is welcome to submit their pages to submissions@beckyhiggins.com, any time.

Hi Becky, I am one of your followers that has completely “bought” in to Project Life. I’ve bought just about everything you’ve sold. Never been disappointed until now. I bought 4 of the project life mini-albums that were on sale last week. The two midnight ones came with warped backs, I decided I could live with it when on Amazon I was told it could not be replaced. The two kiwi green ones (fab color) one came fine the other came with the front pocket so crooked there was no way I would use it. I am sending that back and I’m disappointed that I cannot get a replacement, especially since they were on sale. However, not the end of the world. I have two things that I’d like to offer as constructive criticism, 1) I loved the old journaling cards where you could write on the back, which I probably did 50% of the time, with one of the arrows indicating there was something on the back. 2) while I think the project life kits are a very good value I think the mini-kits are way over priced – you get 1/6 of the cards for 1/2 the price. Love your products and will continue buying them forever.

I’m new to Project Life, recently bought a couple kits from Amazon (love) and the kits from HSN (love). I too bought mini albums during the sale and both have very crooked front window pockets :( I haven’t decided if I am returning them or not since can’t get a replacement at the same price.

Oh no, sorry to hear your new mini albums were so funky! That is no good. Please email me at customer service@beckyhigins.com and we will see what we can do t get you taken care of.

I can’t wait for the Olive Design A! I will be holding out for that :) Do you know if it is possible to put pictures in the 3×4 sections, or are those always filled with journaling cards? Thanks!

Can you post a tutorial about how you make your family yearbooks? I’m absolutely in love with that idea!

Just curious as to where YOUR Project Life share pages are? I know that you like to keep YOUR life private for the most part and while I respect that, I do find it odd that you aren’t willing to share a whole lot of your pages yet you have a “design team” for your product.

I just got my Shutterfly book in Olive edition and LOVE IT! I would love to share the pages such as you’ve done here, but I’m unsure how to get the images like they are displayed here. I cannot seem to copy from Shutterfly and the photos I took of the book aren’t very good (glare).

Do you do these in addition to family Project Life scrapbook books or does this cover that and then you do separate PL pages for your kids’ albums?

    • brandi@beckyhiggins.com says:

Becky does individual albums for each of her kids and then 1 digital family albums (that she prints 4 copies of).

    Hi Becky,

In your post about your family yearbook, can you address what you do with non-kid related memorabilia (that doesn’t belong to a specific kid but that you might want to save)?

Would love to tutorial on how you build your Shutterfly books. I use iPhoto, but I’ve found that it takes forever to load photos up to printing sites and a book needs a lot of pictures. I’m also wondering if you edit your photos before uploading. I’m worried that the photos will be dark or blurry in a book since the only type of photo editing I do is within iPhoto. Any tips you can share about your process would be greatly appreciated since I love the idea of building books for our family and grandparents. Thanks.

SO excited for these! I love your designs and I love Shutterfly–I do at least 3 books a year–so these have me ecstatic for creating my next book.

Becky I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog.

Hi Becky, I have just finished my son’s first trip to the beach photobook. I went with the classic white background but this post has given me the confidence to try use some bright and creative accents and embellishments on the pages as background. Thanks again

I know this is an old post, but none of the photos from it are appearing. Can you fix this?
