scrapbooking solution for amy

We recently heard from customer Amy Carey in Owatonna, Minnesota, and her experience is so inspiring that I wanted to share it with you! Amy uses the Project Life® App to preserve her family’s memories and recently she ordered a LOT of photo books through the app. I was so curious about her order and reached out to her personally. This was what she shared, and we’re posting it with her permission.

I used to dabble in scrapbooking and crafts when I was in high school and then when I moved to southern Minnesota after college, I got into Stampin’ Up! and making cards. Somehow I came across digital scrapbooking and started that — the full-out embellishments and the whole shebang. At that time I was married and we had a dog but didn’t feel like I had a vision or idea of what / how I wanted to scrapbook so I made a lot of single pages and never did anything with them other than share with family and friends on my blog (which I no longer do). In 2012 I did a scrapbook with 2 pages per month which was a theme of the digital scrapbooking community I was in. When my daughter was born in October 2012, I had great intentions of continuing an annual scrapbook and would keep a running Word document with summaries of our months but never went back and made the pages. I eventually stopped doing that since I wasn’t ever making the pages.

Fast forward to November 2014 when I had my son. Prior to this I had come across Digital Project Life. I purchased a whole bunch of the templates and a couple of kits with the intentions of scrapbooking again but felt so overwhelmed with everything I wanted to do, I didn’t know where to start. While on maternity leave, I started to scrapbook 2016 on my computer following your post on how you documented 2015. But once I went back to work, the last thing I wanted to do at night was pull out my computer after being on one all day.

Finally, I decided to buy the app and the rest is history! I’ve gotten professional pictures taken of both my kids since they were born and haven’t ever done anything with them. So that’s what all these books are! Each book is their pictures from 3 months – 4 years old for my daughter (I had previously done her newborn ones the old-fashioned digital scrapbooking way) and from newborn to now (6 months for my son). I was able to fly through these because I didn’t do any journaling, but I’m doing an annual scrapbook and the pages themselves are quick; it’s the journaling I get hung up on. I’ve started keeping a daily journal and that’s helping me to just put what I’ve already journaled right into the page.

The app is seriously a game changer for me. I’ve spent hours over the past months nursing my son and holding him while he naps and both of these are the perfect times to do some scrapbooking on my phone! The app is a breeze to use and I love the simplicity of this scrapbooking method. We went on vacation last week and I believe I made 3-4 of the albums that week alone!

I had printed one album a couple of weeks ago to see if I felt like it was worth the money to order through the app vs. saving the images and printing elsewhere. Obviously since I just ordered however many more, I felt like it’s worth the money!! I have 3 more ready to order once I get around to it. Once I print these, I have scrapbooked ALL of their professional pictures.

Honestly I’m hooked on your way of scrapbooking and your approach to everything makes so much sense to me! I feel like I can stick with it and successfully scrapbook for once in my life. I am so grateful for your products and hope they stick around for many, many years. Keep doing what your doing; I love everything about it!

    Digital newbie here…
Wanted to ask; did you scan their professional pics? I have a ton and love this idea!

I too would like to know how you got the pics on your phone to use the project life app? I have the app on my phone; however, I don’t use just my phone for taking photos. I get pics from other family members and I still use my DSLR for fast action sports pics.

What a shame we didn’t get to see the inside!!

I’m thinking of doing this same thing right now. I have lots and lots of professional family photography that I want printed in books like this. I was thinking of printing from the app (I’m ordering 10x10s as a test) and putting them in an ongoing “portrait” album, so I could add to it as we have more photos taken. But now I’m intrigued by this idea. The books look surprisingly think for just a 3 months photo shoot. Did you do one photo per page? How many photos? Is the print quality of the app prints any different than the quality of photo book printed? Trying to figure out what to do

I ordered 8×8 albums and love the size. I’m not 100% sure on this but I believe all the books are the same size (thickness) it’s just a matter of how many pages go in them. They can hold 20-60 pages and I did anywhere from 3-5 pictures per page. The majority of my books had 20 pages but I had a couple with 36 pages.

I already had them in digital format from my photographer. She posts them on a website and I am allowed to download them and use them. I saved them into Dropbox so I could easily access them from the Project Life App!

I’m Amy’s mom and just have to share how proud I am of her and all the special things she does to capture their family memories. These books are absolutely wonderful!

This is amazing to have done it all. I love the app so much and so does my daughter. She’s just a few months older than your oldest Amy. So I feel like I’m inspired to do more like you have done. Thank you for sharing, Becky and Amy xx
