project life for heritage photos

When it comes to memory-keeping and doing something with our photos, most of us think about the hundreds or thousands of recent digital images from our life. But what about those heritage pictures that so many of us are fortunate to have inherited? When it comes to preserving those photos, I am definitely a fan of slipping those precious photos into pockets as opposed to using glues or tapes that permanently adhere them to traditional scrapbook pages.

I am often asked about a heritage edition of Project Life. Yes, we’re working on that. Yes, it will be awesome. No, I am not able to tell you the timing on that just yet. In the meantime, I do think that getting your heritage photos into a Project Life album is most definitely a wonderful idea and you definitely have some options – with or without an official Heritage Edition. One option is that you use only the Photo Pocket Pages and nothing decorative whatsoever. That’s about as classic and timeless as it gets. Another option is that you choose a Project Life Edition that best suits the photos you’re working with.

The Olive Edition of Project Life, designed by the one and only Heather Bailey, is delightfully beautiful and while many see how it’s perfect for their photos of various themes, we were thrilled to get the following note from Catherine Davis the other day. (sharing the following with her permission of course)

Here’s what I did with the Olive Kit. I LOVE THIS. I got the kit yesterday and thought that the prints in the kit reminded me of 1940’s dresses. Then a light bulb went off. I have a bunch of photos from my Mom’s side of the family that have sat in a memory box for years. (Most of these are just color photocopies that I took pictures of for this project.) I focused a spread on my sweet grandmother and I’m just bananas over having these few memories in one place. Bananas!! The only embellishments I used were two little buttons because she loved to sew. Sniff!

Thank you YET AGAIN for all of the inspiration!

I’m getting requests from aunts, uncles and more family for copies of these spreads so I think I’m onto something. Maybe I should just say, “the Olive Kit is on sale Thursday, folks!”

Have a great weekend,
Catherine

Excellent. I bought the Olive kit too, for scrapping my old photos, but my uncle has scanned in hundreds of my grandmother’s photos. I’m hoping to get a disc of images from him soon, and I think I’m going to get the digital Olive kit so I can put pages together with her photos and run photo books for the whole family. Would be AWESOME.

Thank you so much, Catherine, for the inspiration. I’ve been racking my brain as to how to use PL with all of our heritage photos. I’ve now got the direction for my late mother’s photos. I’m excited. Thanks too to Becky (once again) for Project Life.

Doris Mae was my mother…she was an unique person…very aware of life, ahead of her time, taught us to always love and trust in God, dedicated to her entire family, a proud American, looked for good in all people, very funny…the list could go on forever…how lucky was I. My daughter, Catherine Davis, has fulfilled a question that most of us wonder about…will anyone ever remember me in generations to come and what will they remember. Catherine has captured, in a nutshell, the true spirit of my mother’s life…how she created such a tribute with a few pictures and personal thoughts reflects Catherine’s awesome talent. My entire family has been inspired by her skills and talents so many times before, but her endless stream of ideas never cease to amaze us all, as this project has done. She has given us a gift we are thrilled to have…it has touched our hearts and I know my mother is beaming with pride for the loving rememberance Catherine has given us all. I am so grateful to Catherine and I do hope her efforts will inspire others.

Got on Amazon to get the Olive core kit at 12:04 so it was officially Valentines Day for the sale, and it was freaking sold out already. I thought the sale started the 14th and went through the 18th. Four minutes into the sale and the core kit was gone, really!?!?!? There must not have been much stock to sell out in 4 minutes. I am so bummed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Terresa says:

    Sold out! Really?

  20. Laura says:

Nothing more annoying than waiting all day for a sale, going to Amazon a few minutes after midnight (Central Time) and the product is not available. Very short sale.

  21. Elizabeth says:

I can’t believe it is already sold out :( What a bummer. I am unsure why the “sale” last days when it sold out in min!

  22. Amazon is showing the Olive Core Kit as “unavailable”. No worries; It has NOT sold out. Apparently they thought our sale price might be a mistake so we have to work out the kink with Amazon (ugh). Sorry for the inconvenience.

  23. Lida says:

Is it really sold out! I can’t believe it is sold out, I was hoping to order it today. Not to crazy that this promotion is so short.

  24. The Amazon glitch is FIXED. The sale has resumed. All is well. Nothing Olive is sold out.

    HAPPY SHOPPING! ; )

  25. Theresa G. says:

HERITAGE??? That’s fantastic! I can’t wait to see it!!!!!

What fab inspiration! Its funny but as soon as I saw the Olive Kit, it reminded me of my grandmothers. I’m going to make a mini album of my grandparents (FYI the rain mini album is absolutely stunning with the Olive kit) and a special album for my MIL’s 80th birthday which I will be filling with cards and sending to the UK for all her friends and family to leave a note and add a photo (in secret of course, I want it to be a surprise). I know she will LOVE this!

I can’t tell you how much Project Life has totally changed my memory keeping, I love it so much! Thanks Becky, David and all your wonderful team and designers!
