new product reveals – core kits

We are thrilled that today is finally here because TODAY we are launching our big week of new product announcements!

This is always so fun for us, because there is so much time & effort that goes into every product we make and to finally be able to SHARE the awesomeness? Just makes it all sweeter to see your enthusiasm. No need to drag this out. Let’s get right down to it!

Product: Project Life® Heritage Edition

Graphic Designer: Celeste Knight

Expected arrival: Late August/early September in stores everywhere, including online

Notes: This edition has been on my list for a few years now. I am so pleased with how the Heritage Edition turned out, and can’t wait to pair these products with oodles of heritage pictures I’ve been sitting on for years. I know most of you are also fortunate to have inherited old & precious photographs from many years ago too, and now we have designs and a color palette that will complement those photographs and memories beautifully.

Heritage Dividers-01

Note: As demonstrated here, it doesn’t have to be old black & whites. These designs and colors blend well to even current photos too.

Product: Project Life® Sunshine Edition

Graphic Designers: Elsie & Emma (sisters!)

Expected arrival: Late August/early September in stores everywhere, including online

Notes: If you’re not already familiar with Elsie & Emma’s wildly popular lifestyle blog A Beautiful Mess … you are now. These beautiful real-life sisters are all about creating a beautiful life. They share daily inspirations, DIY projects and recipes, and they believe that the best things in life are homemade. Their style is unique and quirky and insanely fun … and all of that shines through in the Sunshine Edition they designed for Project Life! On a personal note, Elsie is already a Project Lifer and has been using the Seafoam Edition. You can see some of her pages here – and if you’re like me, you’re now on the edge of your seat to see what her pages will look like with the Sunshine Edition!

Product: Project Life® LDS Missionary Editions

Graphic Designer: Kimberly Church

Expected arrival: This October in Deseret Book, some other retail stores, and online

Notes: This is another project that has been on my list for quite some time. “LDS” stands for Latter-day Saints, which is a nickname (like “Mormon”) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have a very personal connection because I am myself LDS so it only makes sense that I at least explain the scope of this product, particularly to those of you who may not be as familiar with the Church.

One of the unique aspects of the Mormon Church is our full-time missionaries. Young men can leave as early as 18 years old now, and they spend 2 full years in an area assigned to them – anywhere in the world. Our nephew Tyler will be heading to Albania soon. Young women can leave as early as 19 years old now, and they spend 18 months in an area assigned to them – again, it’s anywhere in the world. Our friend Charlee begins her mission this week and will be heading to Oregon soon. Even “senior couples” can serve full-time missions if they choose. My parents recently served for a couple years in Finland, and just completed another mission that was more “local” to them – in northern Virgina.

Serving a full-time mission is voluntary and each missionary pays their own expenses. Incredible. I could go on of course. But I’ll keep everything in the context of these new product announcements. The point of me sharing a little bit about missionaries is so you understand why we developed Project Life products specifically for this “niche” market. There are currently – at this very momement – more than 70,000 full-time missionaries all over the world. Right now. That’s not counting how many have completed a mission in the past, or how many are preparing to go.

That’s a lot of missionaries with a lot of pictures about this phenomenal time in their life. So real quick – here are a few scenarios of who this is designed for:

Scenario #1 – This is for the person about to leave for their mission, who may want to cart around a Core Kit and an album full of Photo Pocket Pages and keep up with adding photos + journaling cards during their mission. This is something Tyler or Charlee could totally do, as putting a Project Life album is as easy as it gets, does not require creative skills or much time, and they stay focused on their missionary service. Not scrapbooking.

Scenario #2 – This is for the parent, sibling, cousin, grandparent, friend … someone close to someone else who’s out there serving a full-time mission … and who is willing to keep an album while the missionary is away serving. I think about my friend Suzee, who did exactly this for their son Sam. Every time he sent pictures, she printed them out, slipped them into a Project Life album and added the cards. When Sam got home, she presented a full album to him and he just added his notes and captions on all those journaling cards so that it was all in his words, from his perspective. Suzee used the Turquoise Edition, which is great – but now we have these missionary-specific designs!

Scenario #3 – This is for the person who completed a mission last month, last year, 10 years ago, or 40 years ago. There are hundreds of thousands of folks who have served a full-time mission for the Church and their pictures are stuck somewhere in a box or a computer. Now is the time to get those photos into an album, paired with other mission memorabilia, memories, and anecdotes. Pulling this together in an album will undoubtedly be a fun project for that person (or their spouse or whoever puts it together). I think about ME in this scenario, because I’m so anxious to get my own husband’s mission pictures out of a box and into an album.

And yes … of course we have the Missionary Edition for Sisters as well!

Designer Kimberly Church

That’s a wrap for today’s announcements. These 4 new Core Editions of Project Life are so perfect for different purposes, designed by different talented women – and we are so excited for each of them! Be sure to tune in tomorrow – and every day this week – for more product announcements! We are just getting started.

Oh – and YES – all of these will be available in digital format around the same time the physical products become available.

I already did most of my mission pictures a few years ago & used the Amber edition.
I’m so excited to go back and change out some of the Amber cards w/ the Sis. missionary kit cards.
What a great idea & a great way to share more about the church!
    ♥ it!!!

  2. Holly Reid says:

I can’t wait for the Elsie & Emma edition!! What a natural pairing of designers for PL! And I’ve started organizing my husbands mission photos but now I’ll have to hold off for the new mission kit–I’m so excited :)

  3. EmmaJ says:

Love them!!! The missionary ones are wonderful and the Family Heratige one is so classic. I love it!

  4. jennie says:

I have been PL-ing old photos from 2008,09, and 10, and I cannot wait to get my hands on Elsie and Emma’s kit to play with. I loved Elsie’s old stuff, and this looks so fun!

I am beyond excited for the heritage and missionary kits. I think these will be great and can’t wait to get my hands on them.

  6. Angela H says:

Yay love Elsie and Emma can’t wait to get my hands on their kit.

  7. Carol says:

I am not Mormon but I think it is so cool that you design products that stay true to your beliefs instead of being afraid you might offend someone.

  8. Nat says:

Woo-HOO! These kits all blew me away! SO excited about all of them, but did a little squeal for the Missionary kits :) What an exciting thing, Becky! Congrats!

  9. Heather says:

Love love these!!! Once again, a winner!!!!

  10. cindy b says:

EEKS! Love that Elsie and Emma kit!!

  11. Robyn says:

Please ask American Crafts to have the colors be as vibrant in the kit as they are on the box! The midnight kit especially is grey, not so much black!. Thanks!

  12. Amanda says:

LOVE LOVE the Heritiage. Will be buying that one!

  13. Lynn C. says:

Love the look of these! And seriously wishing there were missionary/Christian themed editions that weren’t LDS-specific. It’s such a great concept and the designs are beautiful – but half of the cards in the kit would be of no use to me. :(

  14. Zoe Nemburt says:

OMGOSH LOVE the Heritage collection!!!! WANT IT!!!!

  15. liz hamilton says:

love love love the sunshine kit! so excited for the rest of the week announcements

  16. Debra S. says:

I love the Heritage collection! I am trying to determine the best way to use with my old photos which are so many different sizes – not your traditional 4×6 photos.

Although I am not a member of the LDS – I love that there are now PL core kits for the mission trips. What a great idea!

  17. Michelle says:

As a genealogist AND scrapbooker, THANK YOU for the Heritage edition!!! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!!!

  18. ArlaMo says:

As the mom of one missionary (Elder) currently serving in Scotland/Ireland with my second (Sister) getting ready to head to Quezon City North, the Philippines, I am absolutely thrilled with the new Missionary editions!!
And the Sunshine and Heritage editions are gorgeous!

  19. Nicolle says:

wow wow wow, Elsie and Emma outdid themselves. Sunshine is gorgeous.

  20. Lindsey says:

Love love love the Sunshine edition!!!!

  21. Angel S. says:

OH MY!! These are gorgeous!! I can’t wait to get the heritage and sunshine kits!!

  22. Emily S says:

So excited about the heritage edition! I don’t have tons of family information to accompany what heritage photos I do have, so Project Life is perfect for this!

PS Dying for my local Michaels to get PL – have checked three in my city, and none of them have it yet!

  23. Jill Price says:

All of the new editions are beautiful, but I especially LOVE the Sunshine edition! Yikes! I’ll be waiting for that one!

  24. Chalese says:

You and your designers are simply amazing and you have outdone yourself yet again!! Our first missionary is leaving in just a few short weeks and I knew I would be doing a PL album for him. Seeing the “Elder” kit actually made me tear up as that will be my son soon!! So excited to have this most perfect format for his memories of this important time. (I will also be giving one to my husband for Christmas filled with his pics.) Thanks so much for all your hard work and brilliance.

  25. Gina c. says:

I love the heritage kit! I have been waiting to make a family album for my husband’s side, so this will be perfect! The project life concept is awesome, and has made life so much easier. My question is, will there be Halloween kits and fall kits coming out?

  26. Chris Pereira says:

Can you hear my shouts of joy for the heritage and missionary kits!! I am in the process of helping a couple mom’s get ready to document their missionaries experiences and this is exactly what they needed!! Are you by chance going to have some suggestions on how to help the flow of a heritage album when you think in terms of each individual family surname? That is why I have never undertaken my heritage albums just don’t know how to make them flow…and I have thousands of pictures and documents to include as well.

  27. Janet Kemper says:

Thankyou, Thankyou! I am so excited for the Heritage edition. I know now, that I will get that Heritage album done, that I have been wanting to do for so long. The Project Life way of scrapbooking has been so great for me, and I am so excited to do this project!

  28. Ginger says:

So excited for the umpteen years I have of heritage picture yet to scrap now that I have decided to do Project Life. It took me ummmm 7 years to do 1907- 1933 of my husbands mom and dads family working up into his birth. Now I have all the years of his childhood, my childhood etc. I have got to speed things up!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Thanks for the heritage kit! Please don’t hesitate to update it! :)

  29. Vi says:

Sunshine Edition: AMAZING. Perfect for 2014. Well ahead of the curve!

Heritage Edition: Wow, this looks even better than I’d suspected. Well done on choosing colors that will match a variety of old photos, that must have been difficult to accomplish! I’ve seen some lovely heritage books made with Cinnamon too, and it looks like that kit and this one would play wonderfully together. I absolutely cannot wait to spend a cozy winter with this kit and my tub of old photos!

Missionary editions: I’m not a Christian (and not “offended” btw, I might point out to an above poster), so these don’t fulfill their specific purpose in my life. But they actually look like they’d be incredible travel-themed kits with a little personalization, especially any kind of spiritual travel. I might buy the digital kits and use some of the cards for pilgrimage-themed spreads.

  30. Sierra says:

I served in Brazil and sustained an injury in the field which sent home with an honorable release after 9 months. The pain and heartache of that was unlike anything I had ever experienced before or since in my life and caused me to box up all my letters/pictures/memorabilia etc. and put it away until I could revisit it. It’s been 5 years ago TODAY since I’ve been home and in the last few months I’ve been feeling the need to get my memories scrapped. Now I’m SOOOOO glad that I waited because that Sister Missionary edition is absolutely gorgeous!! And (sidenote) I work part time at Deseret Book. I’m TOTALLY stoked!! Thank you Becky and Kimberly for your beautiful products and beautiful designs!

  31. Ebony says:

All of the kits are beautiful! I can’t wait to get my hands on the sunshine kit!! And while I’m not a Mormon (I am one of jehovah’s witnesses (Christian) I think it’s great that you made specific kits for your faith. They are so beautiful and thousands of us do missionary work as well so mabe we will be able to use some of the cards:-) Great job and thumbs up to the design team!!

  32. Jill says:

Any hopes of a travel themed kit? I’d love one specifically themed around trips & traveling.

  33. Ebony says:

Oh yeah, I forgot that I still keep in touch with an old coworker who is Mormon and I believe she scrapbooks too! I will have to tell her about these kits!

  34. Micki says:

They’re all stunning! So exciting to see LDS themed products, I love it!

  35. Cindy Gellhaus says:

Thanks for doing a missionary core kit now I can finally get my mission book done.

  36. Margo says:

LOVE the mission kits. I can hardly wait.

  37. Jen S says:

Awesome new products! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! What about a Disney kit? I have 3 trips to memorialize!!

    • I’d LOVE a Disney kit too, but I’m guessing the licensing would be a lot more complex. I actually made my own Disney kit using mostly red/yellow/white card stock choices (Mickey colors), and accenting with the many Disney stickers that are out there in most scrapbook stores. Worked really well!

  38. Tina says:

SO! excited for the mission kits! Our first missionary will be going out within the year (he will be putting in his papers next March) and this honestly brought tears to my eyes :) I can’t wait! Well, I can, but you know what I mean :)

  39. Vanessa B. says:

The Heritage collection is FANTASTIC! I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Way to go, Becky. Again, with all the editions, you nailed it.

  40. Wendy Orme says:

These new collections are incredible! I especially love the Heritage collection.

  41. Melanie W. says:

My daughter left on her mission in April and had already decided that she was going to use Project Life for her photos and keepsakes when she returns home. I am so excited to see the missionary editions, especially themed directly to sisters. I can’t wait to write her and tell her that it will soon be available. Thank you for making my day!

  42. Ashley C says:

So excited about the Missionary editions. I don’t have any missionaries out, but I would love it! Recommending to all my friends with missionaries!!

  43. Emily R. says:

Love the new kits, especially the Sunshine kit. Can’t wait to see what else you have coming out!

  44. Rebecca S. says:

I love everything you do and I can’t wait til October. Thanks for such a great product that is beautiful too.

  45. So excited to see the new designs!! Oh and I would *love* to see your Mom use the LDS edition for all the beautiful photos she took in Finland!!! hint hint ;) I followed her blog while they were there and loved seeing her daily pictures and reading her stories. What an amazing album that would be!!!!

  46. musa says:

    becky looks wonderful!
is there a catalog out that we can see?

  47. Linda says:

Missionary Kits = genious! My boys are all still very small but this is something I definitely want to do when it’s their time to serve their missions :).

  48. Linda says:

I can’t wait to see more of the sunshine edition!

  49. Monica says:

So all of the kits are awesome – – HOWEVER – and although I am not “LDS” – – that kit was my favorite because after reading about all the men and woman (young and younger) who go out into the world to spread HIS Word – – I was amazed at what a great album that would be for any of them on their mission trips. What a great gift that would make for family members or just the Elder/Sister themselves. Cheers to PL for that.

  50. Teresa says:

I am new to project life & determined to get this past school year done before summer is out for both of my girls. Photos are printed & in route to me …. PL kits sitting on my shelf just waiting.

I LOVE the new heritage kit .. I hope this is something Lisa has on her August 5th episode on HSN!!!

Becky …. thanks for being such an inspiration to getting the backlog of photos complete!!!! I have been a “regular” scrapbooker for years now but am now 8 years behind … so I believe Project Life is the way to go and can’t wait to get started!!!

  51. I’m not Mormon, but I think the design and color scheme of the kit for Elders is really crisp and classy! Nicely done!

  52. Jolene says:

I am so excited for the Missionary Kit! Our oldest son returns home this Friday, our next son is serving in Canada and I want to get my husband’s photos printed from slides and get them done for Christmas. Yay!!

  53. emily says:

Heritage: i love how I can use a different divider for each side of my family! I am sooooo excited about a system for heritage photos that is appealing and not overwhelming!

  54. Robyn says:

So love this system. I am super excited about Missionary. Totally awesome! Also, love all the mini kits and will be buying all of them. Thank you so much for everything.

  55. Jen T says:

Love the missionary one!!!! So awesome! I have 4 future missionaries, so I will be getting those!!! Thank you!

  56. Sharon says:

Heritage kit is wonderful! If you want to type your cards using Microsoft Word or Photoshop,

http://www.smpljournal.com has the 3×4 and 4×6 templates to physical type your stories and memories
WITHOUT, yes WITHOUT glue or tape on all these beautiful cards.

  57. Misty Rose says:

OMG so in love with the life is beautiful…for sure going to have to get that one…and not just cause I love the pink!

  58. Michelle Laulu says:

Becky, I LOVE the missionary themed cards! I can see missionaries using these as a place to write a note or an appointment for an investigator. I have a quick suggestion…your product releases are similar to the releases over on the Papertrey Ink website. They release new product and show samples to get customers excited. They also do a few giveaways of the new product, or a giftcard, to those who comment about the new product. I think you could generate more traffic and attract new Project Life users if you had a giveaway with each release. I know I would be excited!
    You are amazing!

  68. Cynthia says:

I LOVE the designs of the new missionary editions. I want to send a mini album with cards for my parents who are serving a temple mission in Washington DC. They don’t have much time, but I think that if I provided the supplies that they might document many things while serving. I wish that you had some specific cards for senior couple missionaries.

  69. Your style is really unique in comparison to other people I have read
stuff from. Many thanks for posting when you have the opportunity, Guess
I’ll just book mark this web site.
