Part of cultivating a good life is focusing on simple truths.
Here are some of my simple truths:
- I have a loving husband.
- I have daughters who love and forgive me even on my bad days.
- I get a clean slate every day.
- I have a Heavenly Father and Savior who know me personally and love me.
Focusing on simple truths provides me with invaluable perspective and a source of comfort to shine through the clutter and confusion of everyday life. Take for example the truth that my daughters love and forgive me on my bad days. In the months after our second daughter was born, I had a few hard days. I remember how everything seemed to catch up with me all at once one day and I had a minor emotional breakdown. My 22 month old dropped whatever shenanigans she was up to, and with sensitivity well beyond her years, she wrapped her arms tight around me and whispered, “It’s okay momma.” I focused on the simple truth that my girls would forgive me for my bad days, and slowly, all of the “mom guilt” I was feeling withered while my little girl held me.
Your simple truths might not look like mine, but we definitely all have them. Take time to think about what is absolutely true for you. We all have family or work or ideas we can turn into simple reminders that we can use to tell ourselves that “it’s okay,” and we’re doing the best we can right now.

In our company, we know that behind every great man, there’s a great woman by his side. Okay, so Race is the only guy in our office… but still! It’s super true. Emma is Race’s sweetheart and together they are creating the most beautiful family. Emma and their two little girls (and another is expected early next year!) pop into the office regularly and it always makes me happy to see them. Emma’s heart is absolutely in the right place and I can tell she is putting her focus in all the right places — as a wife and a mama.
