Part of cultivating a good life is finding the bright side of a situation to help you get through the difficult moments.

I’ve always believed that when one door shuts, another one opens and that there is always a lesson to be learned from every situation. Every difficult moment leads to something better and makes you stronger. These little positive thoughts have gotten me though many difficult days. We hold the key to our own happiness and I greatly believe that positivity plays a huge role. I’ve realized that so much more in the last six years.

Six years ago, my husband decided to work for his family’s business, two hours from home. Instead of making the long commutes every day, we decided it was best for him to stay there on the days he works. That meant he wasn’t home for nearly four days every week. Most weeks fly by, and before I know it, he’s home. But there have been many weeks that were difficult. Weeks that I felt I didn’t have a second to breathe. Getting pulled in every direction possible by three kids with performances, tournaments, parties, and projects. So many days I wished he were home to help.

But I know that this job of his is what allows me to be a stay-at-home mom. It allows me to be home to cuddle my babies when they’re sick, help in their classrooms, drive on field trips, help my parents when they need me, and be with my grandparents every day they were in the hospital. Looking at the bigger picture pushes me through those difficult days without complaints. My husband is away from home, away from his family, working and has to miss a lot of what the kids have going on. But the excitement they have when he gets home, to tell him what he’s missed, to show him pictures and videos, is priceless. That pushes him though.

We appreciate the days we have together so much more and make the most out of that time. The next time you’re having a bad day, look at the bigger picture and the possibilities that lie ahead. A little bit of positive thinking can get you through those difficult moments.
