good life with tanya hickman

Part of cultivating a good life is knowing that sometimes doing nothing much really can be the best thing to do. Being an adult can be busy, stressful and tiring. You need to do this and you need to do that, the noise can be overwhelming. I recently came across the book Winnie-The-Pooh and the Royal Birthday. It was written this year to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth. I read the book and there is one part in particular that really struck home. Pooh, in his thoughtfulness, wrote a little hum for the Queen as a present: The Queen lived in her palace, as Queens often do. Doing all those busy things that busy Queens do. But The Queen could never know, as you and I do, That doing nothing much can be the BEST thing to do. So from a forest far away, for your special day, We’re sending you some quiet and a little time to play. When my fiancé and I bought our house, it came with a swing set in the backyard. While having children isn’t part of our plan, I wanted to keep the swing set. A couple times a week I head out there and I sit and I swing. I forget about responsibilities, deadlines and expectations. I just swing. I clear my mind and I focus on the moment. Sometimes it is 5 minutes, sometimes it is an hour. But that swing time, is MY time. I may not be a queen and I may not be the busiest or most overwhelmed person, but I plan on taking some advice from a silly ol’ bear. Sometimes doing nothing much really can be the best thing to do.
