good life with constanze wirtz

Part of cultivating a good life is listening to what your heart is telling you.

Life is often busy and like anybody else, I need to take care of lots of things that are going on: my job, our home, our friends, our community, and (most important to me) my family. I could go on for a bit and I think everybody could add something to her / his own list. While I try to keep up with everything on my list, I sometimes feel the pressure that I need to do it all: being a great mom, loving wife, good friend, nice co-worker, and always helping others and being there. I want it all and wish I could do it all at once. I sometimes just can’t. I have to work, run errands, and take care of our home. There are moments when I don’t know where to start and what I should let go.

Looking at social media or meeting others sometimes makes it even worse. It sometimes looks like everybody else is doing all of it with a smile and easily getting it all done. At times this makes me feel even more overwhelmed and like I just need to get better.

When I feel overwhelmed like that I feel the need to take a step back and press pause. This is a good feeling because my heart is trying to tell me something. When I listen to my inner voice, I know I need to take a break. I need to listen to that (sometimes almost silent) voice in my head. I need to listen to what feels important and “right” for me. I hear what feels right to my heart. Maybe this isn’t something others would say. But if I listen closely, I hear my heart talking to me and leading me MY way.

This surely doesn’t mean I always choose the “right” way or the easiest way. No! Often it’s hard and I need to get out of my “comfort zone.” It may not tell me what others are expecting from me, but when I do what feels right in my heart, I can never be wrong! I may choose a different way the next time, but I do this because I needed to learn something else first. Most often it makes me feel better and more energized because I stay true to myself. This way I can be a better mom, wife, and friend because I do what feels good to me and I take care of my needs too!

It may take some time to hear this voice. Some may hear it when they pray, meditate, exercise, or whatever! But if you listen closely, you’ll hear it and you will feel like you know what to do.

Thanks so much for sharing this and the reminder that we do need to be true to ourselves. :)

Thank you for sharing this! I used to be very much like you! Running around making sure everyone was taken care of and that I did it perfectly. I’m glad you’ve found a way to take a break and breath!
