I was born + raised in Strathmore, a town in Victoria, Australia and moved out of home to travel and work in the hospitality industry up and down the east Coast of Australia. Now I have come full circle and am back in Strathmore with my family, where it feels like home.
My family now consists of my English husband of almost 8 years, our three daughters Zahlia, Harper and Wynter, our dog Maxwell and new kitten Cinder. I also have some special people in my life who I couldn’t live without!
The way I use Project Life is to document the ever-evolving chapters in our story. I’ve always been a memory keeper, always taking loads of photos and slipping them into albums with a little comment to go with it but then in 2010 I found Project Life. I ordered the Amber kit and documented a photo a day from the start of 2011. It was such a perfect year to document as Zahlia was just starting her formal education at preschool and we welcomed Wynter into our lives. I fell in love with the simplicity of the system – I mean if I could document a whole year with two kids and welcome a newborn, then imagine what I could do once I got some sleep!
I kept up with my documenting, finally moving to a weekly spread in 2013. In 2014 and 2015 I tried to go fancy and add extras to my albums, but it just did not work for me. Both years are lackluster to say the least, but I have a goal to go back to work on them when I can.
Each year I create a a family album while at the same time working on my daughter’s albums. Each of the girls have their own album, which consists of 1 spread each month. I hope to be able to give them 5-7 albums when they each reach the right age!
To me, documenting life is documenting our stories is so important to me. I want to preserve our memories for future generations. Both my husband and I have “lost” family to dementia and oh how I wish we had some snippets of their lives recorded. I think about all the things that I would love to have known about our relatives, little things like what books did they enjoy, who were their friends, what foods they enjoyed and hated, what made them . . .them. These are the things that I like to include in our albums.
Three things on my bucket list are:
1. Happiness and health
2. To buy and renovate our dream home
3. Pull off the biggest surprise in 2017 for the girls (bring on August)
Cultivating a good life means to be true to yourself. When you are doing what you love, you do it well.
