app questions + answers

BH_APPFAQ_073014

Last month we officially announced that the Project Life® App was on the way. That’s all it was — an announcement. TODAY I wanted to actually tell you about the app. Honestly, the most effective way to show you what the app does and how it works would be for me to … well, actually SHOW you! Just ask the 120 women who were at our recent Meet & Mingle. It was quite fun to demonstrate it live in front of that very enthusiastic group! And, of course, everything makes more sense when you can see it in action.

So … we’re working on some video demonstrations. Stay tuned for that. In the meantime, we are paying attention to the questions you already have, and I’ve decided to answer some of those questions on the blog today instead of my usual Wednesday At Home with Becky post. I figured you’d much prefer to know more about the app today, instead of know how I organize my toilet paper in the bathroom (but seriously — that’s coming next week).

Let’s get to it!

Questions. Answers.

Q: What’s the app called?

A: Project Life! Yep, pretty simple + straight-forward. If you search for it now, you won’t see it. It’s not available just yet.

Q: When will the app be available?

A: The actual launch date can’t be pinned down because there is a whole approval process that happens before an app officially launches. While that exact date is out of our hands, we are doing everything possible to get this app launched in the coming month, so everyone cross your fingers that you can have it by the time September rolls around.

Q: Will it be available for Android?

A: Yes! We know many of you are Android users, and we love you all just the same! We absolutely want the Project Life App to be available to everyone, regardless of what device you use. The thing is … app development for Android takes much longer and it’s much more complicated. I wish it weren’t … but that’s just how it is. So Android users, hang in there. Your version of the Project Life App is coming … but it’ll probably be several months before it happens. If I could click my heels and make it happen faster, I would. But instead of holding off on the Apple version of our app, we decided to at least get that version out there, knowing that the Android version would be on the way a bit later. Thank you for understanding, and thank you for your patience. Most of all, thank you for still carrying on with the enthusiasm!

Q: What about iPad?

A: Yes! The app will be available for both iPhone + iPad at the time of launch.

Q: What does it do?

A: It’s scrapbooking in the palm of your hand, my friends. Honestly, this app is a game changer. At least it is for me! I’ll let you decide if it’s a game changer for you, too. If you think Project Life is the simple solution to getting scrapbooking done faster + easier (it sure is!) … this is the next step in ultimate convenience + ultimate simplicity.

Picture this: You’re waiting at the doctor’s office and have a few minutes to spare. You get on your phone, open up the app, and right there you create a scrapbook page, pulling in your photos from your camera roll, Photo Stream, Dropbox … just about anywhere you can access photos from your phone. You also add Project Life cards – title cards, journaling cards, filler cards … whatever you want each “pocket” on the page to be. This is Project Life after all, so yes — we’re all about keeping things simple for you. And trust me, when you see it — you will understand just how beautiful the functionality is.

Q: What’s the result?

A: Completed scrapbook pages in less time! Physical scrapbooking results in finished pages. Digital scrapbooking results in finished pages. But now Project Life can be done entirely from the phone that’s in your pocket – start to finish. It actually gives me goosebumps, people. Those completed pages can then be exported and printed – ready to slip into an album. Or you can print them in an already-bound photo book! The actual printing capabilities will be added to the app pretty soon after the launch, so more information about pricing, size options, quality, etc. will come later. In the meantime, you can totally export and print as you wish!

Q: How can I see more?

A: On social media this week, I am sharing sample pages that I’m creating with the app. They each take me just a few minutes to create once I add in the photos + the cards + add my journaling. It’s seriously so fast. Oh – and the journaling? If you have Siri on your iPhone, you can even add the journaling that way! Ummmmm… yessss!!! That’s one of my favorite features. Thank you Apple for that beautiful technology!

So – keep an eye out. I’m sharing sample pages on facebook + twitter + instagram. Next week you might be seeing others sharing pages because we have some beta testers giving it a whirl. I’ll also be sharing (via facebook + instagram) short video clips that demonstrate parts of the app!

So … there you go! Those are the big questions. We know there are more questions – always. Follow my social media where you’ll find more answers as we get closer to launch. And then obviously once the app becomes available, even more questions will be answered when you can see more of it with your own eyes. Hooray!

Friends, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being excited with us about the Project Life App. Five years ago, the Project Life system was born – and this company was created – because I had a deep desire to simplify the process of scrapbooking for myself and for others. I saw a need. I wanted to provide solutions. It wasn’t long after those first couple of super crazy years that David and I really had a strong vision of this becoming an app. We knew this was the next stage in the evolution of memory keeping. I have a personal desire to always be a life-documenter and I know that the simpler it is, the more likely I’m able to get it done.

This app has been in the making for a long, long time. We are blessed beyond measure to have an app developer who has implemented our vision perfectly. We have an incredible little team who has worked hard to help pull this off, too. I am dying to get this in your hands. I can’t wait for you to play around and find out quickly how this is so much more than a fun app. The Project Life App is full of purpose, full of simplicity, full of solutions.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being excited with us!

Excited doesn’t even describe it! I’ve been wanting to start project life for a really long time but even something as simple as project life seems impossible right now with three little kids! I don’t even have time to download the pictures off my phone so to be able to document our memories whenever I have a few minutes from my phone it is a dream come true! Thank you and I can’t wait!!!

  2. Crystal says:

Thank you so much for not forgetting about us android users! Now I have to try to be patient for several months :)

  3. Karen says:

I can’t wait. Is this going to be free app?

    • Sarah says:

Oh I can’t imagine it would be free! My husband is an app developer and I know firsthand how many hundreds (if not thousands) of hours must have gone into an app like this – ensuring good design, functionality, workflow (along with endless cycles of testing and bug fixes!) and how many hours are still to come with support and updates! It takes a ton of work and I’m so grateful to Becky and team for taking it on! Sign me (and my wallet) up! :)

    • Toni Chase says:

No, it won’t be free – but we’re pretty sure you’ll be super pleased about the small price tag on the app that is packed with so much punch! ~ Toni @ Becky Higgins

    • Theresa says:

I will be happy to pay:)

  4. SO excited for this, I can’t even tell you. I would chime in with the questions and ask if it is an IPAD/Iphone all or just a phone app? If it’s an IPAD app too–oh my goodness! My other question is about the PL kits. After reading this I am assuming you have to upload the digital kits you already own to your dropbox/stream/etc so they can be used from there. Is that right? I already have my cards in my iPhoto so if that’s the case–woo ho0!!!

    • Toni Chase says:

Hi Heather! Yes, it will work on both the iPhone and the iPad! As far as your other question, we will be explaining more about this as we get closer to launching the app. Thank you for your patience! ~ Toni @ Becky Higgins

  5. Nikki Joyce says:

Hi Becky. Will this be available in th UK at the same time as the launch in the USA?
    Thank you
    Nikki x

    • Toni Chase says:

Hi Nikki! Great question! Of course everyone world-wide will have it available at the same time. Yay for that. ~ Toni @ Becky Higgins

  6. Kimberly Bourque says:

@Heather Johnson I’d imagine there will be in-app purchases for kit features. (perhaps)

OH and I’m all in LOVE with this idea. I use my collect photo app every day to document and record a memory, but I figured about one year of it is all I’d want in my albums. WOOOO WHOOO for next year’s album. :) Oh and JUST IN TIME because my collect app has documentations for every day dating back to the start of last September.

  7. Toni Chase says:

We know you have more questions, and we will be answering them as we get closer to the app being released! Thank you for your excitement!!! Toni @ Becky Higgins

  8. Ily Figueroa says:

YAY!!!! I am truly so happy. Thank you LORD for blessing Becky Higgins with this gift and for others to be able to enjoy this gift!
Can’t wait to have it in my hands and see what inspirations the Lord gives me to create with this app.
Thanks to Becky and your hard working team!
    Many Blessings!
    XOXO

  9. Jennifer K says:

Looks great! I have one request – can you or your techy brother please explain Dropbox. What is it, how does it work, why should my pics be there, how do I get my pics there. I keep hearing this talked about but I can’t wrap my head around why it would be beneficial and then how to implement it. Thanks for considering it.

    • Heidi C says:

I agree. A DropBox tutorial would be awesome!

    • susan says:

      2nd the ideal

    • Elizabeth says:

      Yes a Dropbox tutorial please.

    • HI Jennifer. That’s a great question! First of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dropbox. I use it heavily every day. It’s one of those apps that everyone should use. I wrote a post about it a few weeks ago. Here’s the link: http://allgaierconsulting.com/techtalk/2014/4/10/indispensable-mac-app-dropbox

Hope that helps you to better understand it, at least at a high level. I’m happy to help more if you need it. Feel free to contact me (contact info on my site)!

    • Desiree says:

Google it. It’s a place to store pictures online.

    • Jenny B. says:

Dropbox is cloud storage. I use it to get my photos from my iPhone to my computer. I downloaded the Dropbox app to my phone and the desktop version to my computer. When I take photos with my phone, the app uploads them to the cloud. Then, I go to my computer, open my Dropbox folder (which was automatically created when I set up the software), and all the photos are there in the Camera Uploads folder. I drag the photos from there into the appropriate folder in my Pictures folder on my computer, which moves them from the cloud to my hard drive. My husband and I share our Dropbox account, so his iPhone photos automatically show up in the Dropbox folder as well. I also use Dropbox to get photos from my computer to my phone. For example, if I took a picture with my DSLR, and I want to make an Instagram out of it, I would use Dropbox to get it to my phone. I just create a folder on my computer in my Dropbox folder, and whatever I put in there, will also show up in the folder in my Dropbox app on my phone. I don’t use Dropbox for long-term storage because I would have to pay extra for enough space to do that. My photos are only stored in the Dropbox cloud for as long as it takes me to transfer them from one device to another. Hope that helps! :)

  10. Katie says:

Congratulations on this exciting milestone! I can’t wait for the Android App, but I’ll be patiently awaiting and looking at pictures of iPhone App creations. Hooray!

  11. ManLe says:

EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting for!!!! LOVE the concept of Project Life, but haven’t had the time to sit down and get started. My son is 18 mos. now and I have thousands and thousands of photos & videos of him.

I’m in the IT industry and LIVE on my iPhone…so this will just make it SOOOO easy to capture all his milestones and moments.

Love you for this Becky, THANK YOU!!

  12. Leah says:

I’m already a digi scrapper, recently turned on to PL for catching up my albums…so this is super exciting to me. I’m actually reading about it as I wait for my son who is in Physical Therapy. :-)

  13. Tricia says:

What if you don’t want to complete the entire page? Will I be able to perhaps do a few photos, add my journaling, print and slip into the pockets? Will this be an option?

    • Sarae Martin says:

Will the core kit cards be included or are those add ons that have to be purchased?

  14. Laura says:

Yay!!! I’m excited about the print service. I’d love to see printing in 12×12, 6×8, 4×4, 3×4, 4×3…all those Project Life sizes that I have a hard time getting printed elsewhere. I’m all for digital and technology, but I know I’m always going to be a touchy-feely scrapbooker and if I can do some ‘hybrid’ pages with some prints from the app, as well as good ‘ol paper core kits & photos, I will be a very happy camper.

  15. susan says:

can i download the app on a mac?

  16. Jess says:

Are there plans for a Windows Phone version?

  17. Lindzie says:

    Sounds awesome!!

  18. Stephanie says:

I have a ? Regarding the pl cards and kits will you be able to purchase them on your phone or is it one big app and you can use them all ?

  19. Toni Chase - Becky Higgins Customer Service says:

We know you still have many questions, and they will all be answered as we get closer to launching the app! ~ Toni @ Becky Higgins

  20. Danice says:

Unlike Crystal I’m not that patient or impressed, you hype up the app, sounds fantastic then hit us with android users have to wait .. for months, these days it doesn’t seem right that companies release apps not available for android users at the same time,

    • Elizabeth says:

      I agree.

    • Desiree says:

Especially when there are more Android users in this world than iPhone users.

    • Joelle says:

I think Becky explained that pretty well. Apple has made it EASIER for app developers to get their apps out there. That’s why EVERYONE these days seems to release for iPhone first. It’s not because people think there are more iPhone users in the world — just because, like everything with Apple, it’s just easier. So maybe complaints to the Android powers-that-be would be more helpful?

  21. Brooke says:

If you need any Android testers down the line I have a Google Nexus 4.

Congrats on this next step for Project Life! You really are streamlining scrapbooking and I can not be more grateful.

  22. Carmen says:

Will it be a free app

  23. Deena says:

Will the app be compatible for windows phone users?

  24. Colleen says:

Not sure I want to go there, but want to see what it’s all about. Who knows-maybe I’ll love it.

  25. EmmaJ says:

So excited! Will we be able to use the app while offline?

  26. Shantell V says:

I’m pretty sure this is going to totally change the way I scrapbook. This is HUGE and will be a total life changing event :)

  27. Leny says:

Hurry hurry!!! I’m so excited Becky!

  28. Tina says:

if u don’t have it ready for all platforms…don’t release it yet. simple. now i, along with many many others, have to wait. of course we do. not impressed at all to be told to be excited and the app is coming soon…but not for half of your customers. disappointing, to say the least…i hope this app is all it’s cracked up to be.

    • Sol S. says:

If you read the Q&A above she explains why it takes longer for Android users to get the app “app development for Android takes much longer and it’s much more complicated.” so it is not because she doesn’t want to release it at the same time. I think it’s great she’s releasing the app for iPhone, think positively and look at the bright side, if it’s released for iPhone first and something doesn’t work the way they expected they can fix it for Android even before the app is released. Why do people have to be so childish and negative?

  29. Natasha says:

So I own paper PL, digital PL, do I need to buy the kits on this app too!?

  30. Outi says:

    Hi Becky!

I would love the app, but I have all my yearly books (except two PL albums) in letter or A4 size. Can one print PL app pages in letter or A4 size?

You are doing great things! I admire immensely your enthusiasm and creativity!

  31. Brenda Howell says:

Not sure what the price point will be but please do not in app us to death!!!

  32. Jenny B. says:

This is exciting, and I’m sure this question will be answered eventually, but… how will you have access to Project Life supplies from your phone? Will they be separate purchases? If you’ve already purchased lots of digital versions of the kits (which I have), will you be able to use them in the app? If it’s going to require purchasing everything all over again, well… that would not be fun. Can’t wait to learn more! :)

    • Bea says:

I hope we don’t have to purchase everything all over again. But she has to make money somehow……

    • Jen says:

I’m going to try to upload some of my core kits in dropbox to use in the app instead of buying them all over again.

  33. Antoinette says:

Please, please, PLEASE make this available for Windows users like me! I am a dedicated Project Life fan, and have been since the second year. I NEED this app!!!

  34. Monica says:

Depending on the price of the APP will probably be the deciding factors for myself and others to purchase. Honestly, I’m a “free” app person, so not sure if I would even do the APP, if I’m doing my albums….but who knows, we’ll see. Unfort. some can’t afford, albums + digitial and now App – – but am looking forward to reading answers to questions we may all have.

  35. Betty says:

Thank you so very much for remembering Android..WE LOVE YOU!

  36. Sherri says:

Can something be started on the phone then finished on iPad? Or vice versa?

  37. Bridget says:

This app looks great! Gift books, etc. However, I am an android user…and physical scrapper. I would love to be able to use for planning page layouts and direct upload to print only pictures in designated sizes. I could review my page plan in the app when I create my physical pages. Perhaps phase 2 of app. Thx

    • Ebony says:

That’s exactly what I’d like to use it for too. Otherwise it is of no benefit to me

    • Joelle says:

I was thinking the same thing! Would love to use the app for planning so that I don’t “over print” as I often do at the end of each week!!

  38. Staci K says:

So excited for the app! Will the app be available to use on a Mac?

  39. Bernie says:

I too am interested in how my already downloaded themes from digitalprojectlife.com might interact with this app. Also wondering if other services will be able to interact with this new app, such as Flickr, Box, etc.. So looking forward to this.

  40. Kathy M says:

I can’t wait to see the video demonstrations!

  41. Amy O'Hala says:

I am super excited about this app I cannot wait until it launches. Good luck and hope it’s quick coming out.

  42. Amy O'Hala says:

I am super excited about this app I cannot wait until it launches. Good luck

  43. Michelle says:

How much will the app cost?

  44. Christie LaCharite says:

So excited about this Becky!! I can’t wait. I’m constantly on the run and waiting for my kids at different events…I’m going to love this!!

  45. Emilie says:

    Hi!
The app looks great, congrats to everyone! I’m just about to go ahead and download it but I’m a bit worried about the printing dimensions. I live in Paris, France and I’m afraid I won’t be able to print my pages in the right format / size. Will I be able to choose in which dimensions I want to print my scrapbook pages?
    Thanks a lot!

  46. Wendy says:

I’m almost tempted to go get an ipad just so I can use this until the Android version comes out!

  47. Esther says:

I just downloaded the app… n it keeps crashing every few minutes… from excited… it became frustrating especially since the last saved mode is always a few minutes before the app hangs… urgh!!! My recommendation is for users to only download when the app is stabilised )=

  48. Gina Ward says:

Please let me know when this releases! I need it asap!

  49. Tiffany says:

i love this idea but have never done Project Life on paper – would this still be easy and something I could do?

Also, when its exported and printed, are the journaling cards and filler cards printed on the actual cards ?? So that is still looks like it was done manually?

    Thanks!!

  50. Ily Figueroa says:

My i pad 2 is crashing every time I am almost done with a page. Is this an issue with the processor not being able to handle the app or is it a problem with the app?

  51. LeeAnn Giroux says:

Can you please design a Canadian themed card set for your PL app just like the American one. I love this app! Great job!

  52. Thatiane says:

Hi! I just bought the app, for sure will help me improve my physical album. However, when I started my project life in app, I saw the photo library is not showing all my photos, only the most recent and which were published in other app (instagram, vscocam…) How do I access all my photos? Thanks!

    • Jeannette B says:

I noticed the same thing. Especially after I did the os8 update. Pictures that I had previously used are no longer accessible.

  53. Vicky Stoffberg says:

Firstly I got to say this app is amazing I am loving it. Thank you for making it affordable I have bought all the kits on the app and am eagerly waiting for more to be added. I am sure that it will be a work in progress but thought I Would mention some things I think could be great to be added ( sure you have already thought of this LoL ;) ) I would love to have virtual stamps I could stamp onto pix and also a virtual date stamp. Thanks again for turning my photo journaling into such an amazing experience.x

  54. Peggy says:

    Bonjour,
J’ai télécharger l’application normalement elle aurait dû se mettre en français, mais je l’ai en anglais.
    Comment puis-je modifier la langue?

    Merci par avance

  55. Hey! I’m at work browsing your blog from my new apple iphone!
Just wanted to say I love reading your blog and look forward to all your posts!
    Keep up the great work!

  56. Danelle says:

Any update on the release date for Android?

  57. Amélie says:

    First, thank you!
Thank you for having created this application because I had to stop my PL and now I’m going to finish 2014 and start 2013!
I can’t seem to leave comments on the appstore, so I’m doing here.
I look forward to the next update, congratulations for your work.

    Sincerely,

    Amélie (from France)

  58. Sarah says:

Firstly, I LOVE this app, it’s beautiful and so easy to use and I am addicted to scrapping with it every day! However, I purchased a few additional kits while I was using it on my phone, but when I use the app on the iPad those kits aren’t available to me there! I use both the iPad and my phone, since my phone is more portable, but the iPad has a larger screen. I thought that my purchases would be available no matter which device I was using. How can I access the additional kits I have bought without having to buy them twice?
    Thank you :)

  59. I became within the perception the target application can be fastened to storage hardware. However I do not really take into account just where We examine which.
